Ballet

Ages 5 - 17

Ballet Class Descripts

Ballet I & II

Ages 5-7

Level I classes are 60 minutes long and they meet once a week. The class more closely follows the structure of a ballet technique class. The class begins with conditioning, strengthening and stretching exercises to help students use, and isolate, certain muscle groups pertaining to dance. Students will use the ballet barre and will learn ballet vocabulary. Body placement and alignment will be discovered. Class etiquette is part of the classroom practice and expectation. This class focuses on Musicality and how movements correspond with the music. Small jumps and exercises across the floor will be practiced building strength and endurance.


Note: All Classes are Subject to Change. There must be at least 4 students enrolled for the class to run.

Ballet III

Ages 8-10

Level III Classes are 60 to 90 minutes long and meet 3 or more days a week. 

 

Stretching,Conditioning, and Strengthening of the dancer’s muscles will continue and students will begin to incorporate more use of the upper body. Barre work becomes more complex as we introduce musicality, accuracy and strength into the combinations.

 

Ballet vocabulary continues to be reinforced, along with the execution and advancing of proper technique. Artistry and Performance quality is also introduced. Some pre-pointe exercises/classes may be given towards the end of the year to strengthenthe feet and ankles to prepare the students for pointe shoes, and more advanced technique.

 

Level III Classes:

Ballet/ Stretch & Strength /  Jazz / Character / Lyrical / Contemporary / Ballroom

 

Note: All Classes are Subject to Change. There must be at least 4 students enrolled for the class to run.

Ballet IV

Ages 9-12

Level IV Classes are 60 – 90 minuteslong and meet 4 or more days a week. Pre-pointe exercises / classes will strengthen the feet and ankles to prepare the students for pointe shoes, and more advanced technique. Barre work becomes more complex as we continue to add musicality, accuracy and strength into the combinations.

 

Ballet vocabularycontinues to be reinforced, along with the execution and advancing of proper technique. Stretching, Conditioning  and Strengthening of the dancer’s muscles will continue and students will incorporate more use of the upper body.

 

Level IV Classes:

Ballet/ Pre-Pointe / Jazz / Character / Contemporary / Lyrical / Stretch & Strength / Ballroom

Ballet V

Ages 13+

Level V Classes are 60 – 90 minuteslong and meet 4 or more days a week. Dancers are required to have 2 years on pointe.

Ballet / Pointe / Variations / Stretch & Strength / Contemporary / Lyrical / Character/ Jazz / Ballroom

Ballet VI

Ages 14+

Level VI Classes are 60 – 90 minutes long and meet 4 or more days a week. Dancers are required to have 4 years on pointe.

Pre-Professional

Pre-Professional Classes are 2 – 2.5 hours long and meet 4 or more days a week. We offer two levels of pre-professional: Intermediate and Advanced. You will be placed in the appropriate level based on your previous dance experience and audition evaluation.

Classes of the Ballet Program

Ballet Technique

Ballet technique is the foundational principles of body movement and form used in ballet. 

Ballet Education

Ballet education includes information on the history of ballet, vocabulary, proper etiquette for both classroom and stage, as well as how to apply stage make-up.

Pre Pointe

Pre-point classes are offered to ballet students who are not yet on pointe to further develop and strengthen the muscles necessary to go en pointe. Pre-pointe classes stress correct alignment and correct classical ballet technique. Pre-pointe classes also allow teachers to assess readiness, offering an atmosphere for proper evaluation of important skills.

Point

Pointe class is the part of classical ballet technique that concerns pointe work, in which a ballet dancer supports all body weight on the tips of fully extended feet. Pointe work is performed while wearing pointe shoes. A dancer should never work in pointe shoes until their teacher has told them they are ready to do so; pre-pointe class is taken in ballet slippers until the dancer has developed the strength and muscles necessary to go en pointe.

Variations

Variations classes focus on learning sections of classical ballets.

 

Stretch and Strength

Strength training is important for a dancer’s overall ability, strengthening the body’s opposing muscles is vital to avoid injury. Flexibility work is important so that the dancer’s movement seems effortless and light. The combination of these two things together in one class helps to create long 
 

Pre-Professional

The Pre-professional program is offered to those students seeking a professional career in ballet, dance, or to those students wishing to compete. This program is designed to give those committed students an extra ten hours a week of technical training as well as the individual attention necessary to fine tune the artistry of their dance.

Modern, Contemporary,
Jazz, Hip Hop and Lyrical

These dance classes are offered to provide various styles of dance to match and expand upon the knowledge, skills and abilities or our students.
